Somewhere in Nebraska...

...Kelly's car is probably crashing down on my motorcycle right now. This is something I hope never to see one of our vehicles go through again.

I really hope I'm not there when it comes back off.

Everything we own is on that truck.

I think the best thing that could happen to us is to have that truck drive off a cliff. Without the driver, of course, he's pretty cool.

Tomorrow, The Palmdale Fall Fest.

At least the truck has load bar "e-track." Now, assuming they also have load bars too, your stuff shouldn't suffer too much from load shift. You'd be totally screwed if there either no bars or if they cheaped out and used tension bars.

I've unloaded enough Perry's Ice Cream Trucks to see the effects of tension bars, I think those are the ones that stay in place (or don't) due to outward preassure on the trailer walls, right? Everything was secured with trackbars that locked into the tracks on the walls.

The trailer was actually kind of fascinating. Designed specifically for moving people's stuff, it had hydraulics to raise and lower the deck, it could be configured inside in almost infinite combinations of decks, and could tow a camper or boat trailer behind it.

The thing I worry about is that much of our stuff will come on and off a few times while the driver accomidates different customers as he crosses the country. Someone in Indiana is going to be sorely disappointed when they find our $20 dish set instead of their heirloom china.

The driver did confide that he has never had a car completely up on a second deck across the contry before.

If you don't count the vehicles, the move transpotation cost of moving our stuff is more than the stuff is worth.

The value of the items rarely transcends the cost of transportation. It does seem odd that that is a pretty much hard and fast rule of thumb, though.

Tension bars are the ones held in place purely via the force of friction between the end of the bar and the wall of the truck. They work great, until the truck actually moves or any force of moving objects is applied to the bar. Both situations are going to happen of course, so tension bars are a complete waste of time unless you are moving air. Load bars and straps are the only way to really move things and even they fail if the things moving in the truck move with enough momentum. I'm impressed they topped a car like that. But why on earth do they think it's a good idea to move your stuff in and out of the thing while going cross country. Sounds like a recipe for crying if you ask me.

If I were to ever move anywhere significant, I would think about going with one of those "pod" companies. It's the kind who drop off a small box trailer in front of your house, you load it up and then call them for pick up. I doubt those come with load bars and straps though.

The driver is an owner-operator, so the more loads he has, the more profit he gets to move across the country. I really don't care as long as my stuff shows up on time and un-damaged.

I think there's about a 100 percent chance that something is going to be wrong.

Whatever, the important things are already in California.
