Happy New Year!
Nothing is as sweet as setting up the Christmas tree. And nothing is as relieving as seeing it gone.
This is our first year with an artificial tree and getting rid of something that is not an organism and will actually be with us again next year is really a lot easier than telling the twelve year old friend who gave his life for your merriment that his presence is no longer convenient.
And to vacuum where the tree was... delightful.

MY GOD, I FEAR YOU HAVE BECOME CALIFORNIANS - NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

Very informative, thank you. I’ve been blogging on and off for almost 3 years, but have never had much of a focus – I tend to just write about whatever is on my mind when I feel like writing.
Cheers!

I think fake Christmas trees are...an unfortunate necessity. I always like the real thing over the fake one, but it's really a crime to take down a whole tree just for a few weeks and then toss it. The other bit of upside to the fake ones is that you always know how big and full it will be. You never run the risk of having an off year with a small, wimpy tree (unless your fake one is like that).
Ya'll better head over to my flickr to check out the new pics.

The only thing is that even with the pre-lit tree, it was really not easy to take down, actually dad will have to help me pull two of the sections apart when he gets here.
Also, the guy next to the apartment complex sells trees and he had an entire flatbed full of unsold trees. I kind of wish one of them had been in our living room for a few weeks. Most tree farming is not something you have to worry about. It's usually done on land thst is too steep or rocky for other types of farming and farmers replace all the trees that cut, obviously, or they will go out of business in a few years. Trees need no pesticides or fertilizer. The image many people have of clearcut land left after a harvest of trees is not reality.
Here though, it just seemed that with all the dry air, fires, and the general lack of trees, a real tree is just not practical. And how long wouuld a tree last in 10-20% humidity?

We have a pre-lit tree because Ron is allergic to pine needles and afraid of fire and I'm too lazy & too busy to remember to water a real tree. My tip to you is to label all of the plugs for the tree so next year you know which ones go together, we used masking tape and the alphabet and now Ron can put up the tree by himself. Of course our tree was the demo model so we do not have the box or directions for it but we have managed pretty well for the last 3 or 4 years.
Did you miss the snow? Not that we always have snow but I think the holidays would be weird if I could go outside barefoot and not get frostbite.

It gets pretty cold here. The average low here is in the 30s, and it does get into the 20s overnight, so it feels like winter. If we need a fixin' for snow, we can drive 45 minutes to the mountains and go skiing.
One thing about snow here is... people purposely put snow on their cars and drive down the mountain into town with it. They have no idea...

Well, Kelly, our cold beats yours! Our garage door did not open this morning so I had to take mom's car to work! It was only -11*F with wind chill -17* at 9AM today. Tonight is supposed to be a bit warmer, maybe even stay above ZERO overnight- however, it is currently -3*F. Go figure, we may even hit the 50's for next week! Gotta love CNY weather!

Oh, I forgot to add,.....
I am so sick of the vicissitudes of the weather with our sudden snap of gelid temperatures which makes me feel soporific while keeping me homebound curled up on the couch with a blanket and either a cat or a dog nestled at my feet.
I'll change purlieus with you if you feel you have the need for the gelid weather!
Did you think I have not been paying attention just because I have not posted? Becki(feeling like I am living in Alaska again!)

I always have one or two, sometimes more, Navajo or other tribes' cultural elements in mind when I start a plot. In Thief of Time, I wanted to make readers aware of Navajo attitude toward the dead, respect for burial sites.
