California Here We Come...

Guest post by Chaley & Richie:

So after months of planning - we are finally here! It seems so odd that in just part of a day, we can travel across the continent. My mom told us today that she feels guilty when she crosses the country like this. Richie and I assumed she meant the fact that we had the means to travel where many cannot. Turns out she actually meant that we can do this in half a day and it took settlers half a year.

By dad's estimation we'd be about to the Village Inn by now if we were settlers and would already have had to trade out the horses and grease our axles once or twice.

Things are really different here. When we got here, Kelly offered us a meal she called "Los Carlos Bouquet". This sounded lovely.

But it turned out to be this:

"Los Carlos Bouquet" was Spanish rice, salad, taco meat, cheese, tortilla chips, and hot sauce and sour cream dressing.

It's the Californian version of "The Chuck Bucket" (Chuck's version of Nick Tahou's garbage plate) that they used to have in Syracuse that consists of tater tots, macaroni salad, topped with beef hot sauce, hot dogs, onions, and mustard.

All I can say is thank heavens there is Lysol in the bathroom! And it made me long for home and some good ole'

More tomorrow!

If I could stomach a garbage plate, I'd have one in your honor today. It's not so much the stomach that's the problem as much as it is the whole food-touching-food thing. Yuck.

Anyway, no longing for home just yet. It's going to be COLD here.

Chaley - please take lots of pictures of Chuck & Kelly's place for me! I've been hounding them for months to post pictures of the apartment and they have yet to do it.

    Bad Chuck & Kelly.

PS - Mom the cats are fine. We're bonding.

Yes, but the more important question is whether or not Kelly gave you some of those yummy butterscotch cookies she made. They were like eat-them-all-now good. I should have stolen them when I was leaving.

i think your travel logs are so interesting. I feel like I am right there. A lot reminds me of the Sonoran desert of Arizona in the pictures. Of course I love the ocean scenes as well. Keep on keeping us informed. You are doing a great job!
