Snow on the mountains: er Er ER, er er ER Er, er Er ER, Er er....
The snow is falling not far from here at all now. We're at 2500 feet above sea level and it's fallen at as low as 3000 feet. Some forecasts say that it could fall at as low as 1500 feet. We'll see. It is raining like crazy though.
Those who have seen the mountains here would hardly recognize them.
That picture is taken around the corner from our place, near Avenue L on 10th Street East and that's snow on the ground almost to the valley floor out near Lake Palmdale.
Mountain High got 18 inches just yesterday and is getting more through Sunday. I read that 400 people got stranded in the snow overnight on The 5 between Santa Clarita and Bakersfield.

Do people there not have winter tires? I mean, I get that 18" is a LOT of snow, but for 400 people to get stranded because of it??

People don't understand weather out here. They freak out in the rain, wind, and snow. I think it's because they're so used to it being 70 and sunny.

It seems to me that many other areas freak out with weather we consider normal. My sister-in-law lives in Connecticut and they get a snow day if there's 4-5" of snow. I guess the coastline keeps them from getting too much severe weather. Either that or we're just tougher in western NY.

I want you guys to know that I've had the song "Smoke on the Water" stuck in my head all day, but instead I've been singing "Snow on the Mountains"
Grrr... Oh and "ha!" to everyone else who now has it stuck in thier head.
