Digging in

Sorry I haven't posted lately; we've been busy buying a house. Our offer was accepted yesterday.

I remember listening to some musician on NPR a few years back being interviewed by Terry Gross and he was saying that his key to happiness was "digging in" where he lived. I think what he meant was that he took risks, bet his future, and established roots where he was. He got involved in the community and took interest and helped drive where things were going. He had a stake and had something to defend from the world.

I think it's something that I subconsciously didn't do in Syracuse. I treaded lightly, both at work and in the community, because I never felt like I belonged. I decidedly didn't care what happened in Syracuse and somewhat within my part of the company where I worked.

I don't know exactly why, but I'm over that. I feel deeply rooted to the Antleope Valley, really since the days I came here last May for my interview; this place seemed like home.

This back yard will be my home in 28 days!
