Time frickin' Warner
Cable guy (three weeks ago this Saturday): What seems to be the problem, sir?
Me: I think the cable box is broken, the digital picture gets pixilated and freezes up.
Cable guy: We had some problems with the satellite reception earlier this week, was it fuzzy and staticky?
Me: No it was pixilated and it froze up like the cable box is not processing the signal as fast as it's receiving it.
Cable guy: I'll check the signal and see if that's okay. (checks signal from the wall)
Me: I'm sure the signal is fine, the analog works fine in the bedroom, it's just the cable box, can you check that?
Cable guy: No, the box is fine, it's just our satellite reception, your signal is fine, I'm sure we won't have any signal problems.

So now the box is worse and the digital cable is unwatchable. They're coming by tomorrow to either replace the box or lose our business. We had the same problem in NY and fixed it by replacing the box. Maybe there's a box shortage in Southern California. Or maybe they are having reception problems, which ever it is, they're going to fix it tomorrow or lose a customer. At least a digital subscriber. I do like Road Runner.
The house has a Direct TV dish, so maybe we'll give that a try.

A tip for dealing with TW. If you have a TW store nearby, just unplug the cable box and take it to the store and say, "This stopped working, please replace it." They will and you will be happy and be able to get to the meaningful stuff from So Cal!

Agreed. That is what we have done a couple of times. Plus that saves Kelly from having to be alone with the TWC guy if he comes during the day.

Same strategy, same outcome for us too... I recall that they were short on boxes, so your suspicion may be right.

Hey, you should consider updating your "Chuck and Kelly" description on the left side, to reflect your homeownership when it becomes official...

They gave us an HD box the last time we had a service call, mostly because the technician only had one box of any kind in his truck and it happened to be an HD box. Of course, we don't actually have an HD TV, so it's a bit of wasted feature on us. Then again, we aren't paying any more for it like we are supposed to. Plus it's a whole lot quieter than the last box we had (their DVR's are notoriously loud.

Here, the dishwasher is so loud, you have to turn the TV from 1/4 to 3/4 volume, and the heat kicks on evey three minutes when it's cold, I guess I don't hear the hard drive on the cable box recording.

Or perhaps the box only makes noise in humid environments? I know ours is louder than our dishwasher!
