She wasn't kidding

I picked up the keys at 3:00. Kelly had to work really late, so I had to go to the house first. We obviously wanted to enter the first time as owners together, but whatever.
I bought some yard equipment then got there and mowed the yard. It really needed it. We figure that the owner canceled the gardener as soon as he figured out we were for real.
I bought a rotary mower because I have so little grass and because I like the idea of not having to use gas (I filled up both vehicles today and spent over $100). I'm going to have to mow like every other day, though, because it was REALLY hard with the grass so long.

I bought some rakes and a hoe too.
Tonight was the first time we have been in the house at night, so it was nice to see how well lit the place is. I'm a lighting freak and absolutely despise being in places with lighting that's too bright. Only one of the lights, the one on the overhead fan in the kitchen, is too bright. Even the foyer light and the one above the dining room table are comfortable. The recessed lighting in the ceiling is really nice too, but I bet changing those bulbs sucks.
I put some food in the bird feeder, put some sugar water in the humming bird feeder, and left some water out for the cat we're convinced was Liz's and John kicked it out after she passed. We only have two pieces of evidence to support this theory, one is that there are two dishes out in the back that look like they were for water and food. The other is that mystery cat is the exact color of the carpet and the little we know about Liz suggests she would have paid attention to such things.
Kelly's body language in early February

Kelly tonight:

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes and prayers, now make some airline reservations and come stay with us. I'm not kidding, we' are excellent hosts and live in a great area to use as a base camp to see Southern California.
We have a really busy week ahead, which will include having the I Love the '90s wallpaper from hell removed and the walls repainted;, buying new washer, drier, and refrigerator; moving; and me trying to figure out how to work the automatic sprinkler system (there's like 20 dials!).
Plus Kelly just started a new job and I'm working on the most important project we've had in years at my job.

Awesome choice on mower. I wish we could do that, but I fear Chris would wither away to nothing if he mowed our lawn that way! Although for the first 6 months our neighbors to the north lived there they only had a roary mower...hmmm...
I can second the comment that they are good hosts. We've stayed with them a few times and there are none better!

Not for nothing, but you do realize that you've posted enough videos and photos of your place that would make robbing your new house kind of easy.
Which is not to say that I'm not happy for you both! Congratulations on this life changing event!

I've thought about that, but anyone who burglarizes in this area, meaning all of the west coast, would just have to pose as a home buyer to see another model of this floorplan to get an idea about our house. I've been careful not to show the house number or the name of the actual street we're on in any of the photos or videos, and all the houses in The AV look the same.

And in case anyone has connected everything and is planning on robbing you, I can tell you they ain't got a lot worth stealing...yet! Except maybe that rotary mower.

What, you don't think Chuck has a 56" flat screen TV in his future? Isn't that what people with houses do these days?

We're going to try to coax another year or so out of the free TV Kelly's father gave us. It's really a bad time to spend money on anything that's not necessary.

But that is not the American way! It's unpatriotic! You should go out right now and take out a second mortgage that you'll default on so that you can watch meaningless crap in high def!

I know, and the tax rebate check is either going into the bank or buying an ounce of gold (which will not be kept at the house, burgler reading this site)
Reply to this
Fearfully, even the price of gold is tanking in this economy.

Fearfully, indeed. You guys are giving me anxiety.

Um, yeah. I don't need anymore anxiety, thank you.

You DON'T have a Flat-Screen HD TV? What kind of west-coasters are you??
Congrats on the house!!
Listen carefully - for the wallpaper, there is NOTHING IN LIFE better than the $5 Paper Tiger you are going to buy. Today. Also, don't get the "gel" Dif, get the stuff you can mix with hot water. And DO buy one of those plastic pump sprayers. You will not regret it with all the wallpaper you need to remove.
Spray warm Dif/water solution on the walls - wait about 10 minutes, then paper tiger the crap out of it - then spray again. It'll come off super-easy.
Good luck and congratulations again!
BTW - it was a work audit. I'm better now. : )

Or... you could hire someone to start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday to take it down.
