You're missing out

You really are.

We have not been in the desert a year yet, but we can tell you that right now has about a 98% probability of being the best month to be in the California high desert of any month.

It's definitely better than September through March, though none of those months were particularly objectionable.

But April has come off as an absolute gem.

It's California Poppy season!!

Unreal.

Despite the poppies apparent dominance of the high desert, these plants are actually endangered and protected. This winter was prefect for them and they are out in force. The pictures do no justice to their beauty.

They also smell more like spring than Downey could ever dream.

An encouraging note is that all the plants seemed to have several unopened buds, so they may still be here when Kelly's friend, Kelly B., gets here in a little more than two weeks.

My parents, as seen above, have been here this weekend. We're so thrilled to have a witness to this house and the desert we're surrounded by this time of year.

The mountain sides have splattering of yellow and orange and some hues of purple from the wild flowers.

We spent much of this weekend doing practical things like get new tires on Dad's 1998 Saturn SL, with over 130,000 miles (the one he and Mom drove to CA). Fixing a flat tire in Kelly's 2003 Saturn L200, and fixing the brakes on my 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4. We didn't actually do the work in any of these fixes, but we did have considerable labor in ferrying them to and from the Tire Guys shop.

We also spent time in my back yard and grilled.

My Mom and me in front of Kelly's and my house!!
