The Trinity of the House

Maybe everyone feels this way about their house, to one degree or another. But to me it really feels like it's been three different houses along the way. There was the vacant house we looked at, the house that was a construction zone/warehouse for two weeks after we bought but did not live in it, and the house we now occupy. I think the photos below are representative of three different houses.

Pre-purchase:

Kitchen

Richie/Jesse's room (aka, the music room)

Our bedroom

Move-in/Construction

Dining room

Stairs

Garage

Bedroom

Now

Family/kitchen

Outdoors

I guess it would have been better to have shots of the same things from the same spots, but Kelly has the camera, and is still in Washington, and I am still here all alone with just The Shoob, as you all acknowledged with your comments yesterday, oh, wait, there really were no comments yesterday, were there. Huh.

So, I have some questions about Southern California that maybe some people out there can answer.

Why are the sticks of butter short and fat? Why can't I get a normal stick of butter?

What's up with the 1950s School buses?

I think my dad answered that one once when he was here, but I forgot. They're everywhere here and I want one.

I hope all is well with Kelly and she returns safely tonight. She's not flying American, is she?!?!?
I hope you will post some before/after photos of the same rooms. You all look so relaxed and happy in the photos!!

They don't actually use the school busses to transport kids to school, do they? Or do normal people buy them and restore them?

Maybe everyone has them except western NY because of the salt/snow. Maybe they are a novelty everywhere that they survived.

I was going to say the same thing as JJ. Why bother upgrading your capital investments if they aren't systematically eaten away at for 6 months out of the year? If the school bus circa 1950 is still operational, why not use it? Have you seen how old some of the cars out there are?

Well, you're half right. According to wikipedia, the Crown Bus Corporation built buses here until 1991. They built them so well that the average bus has a service life of 10 years, while the Crown buses have a life more like 15 to 20 years. So there are still many of them on the road here. So yes the road salt is part of it, but it's also that they built these models of buses into the 90s. This one was owned by the LAncaster Baptist Church, but I have seen some down below (in the LA basin ) that are actual school buses.

Do they paint the tops white to cool the interior? One of the buses for Churchville-Chili (the most annoying transportation department in the universe) has a weird flashing light in the middle of the roof, any thoughts?

Yes, the tops are paainted to reflect sunlight and reduce the need for a/c. I have seen NY buses painted this way befor we left.

Apparently flashing lights in the middle are due to the fact that people could see the front and the back of buses, but missed the middle and regularly hit them there. In NY the white on the top is actually a reflector so that they can be seen at night from front to back.
