Boy, they're tasty and expeditious.

We went to see the Friday night taping of A Prairie Home Companion last night at the Greek Theatre in LA's Griffith Park, the US's largest municipal park at 3000 square acres. The Greek Theater is an outdoor amphitheatre in the middle of the park, near the Griffith observatory.

The experience of being at the theater is disorienting, you completely forget that you're in the middle of a crowded valley populated with 8 million people. You could swear you're in a remote national park. Actually, you don't see any man-made items outside the theater itself.

Prairie Home is special to Kelly and me for several reasons. One reason is that we sort of based our honeymoon around seeing a live broadcast in Saint Paul, Minnesota at the historic NPR Fitzgerald Theater. For Kelly, I think it is something that I introduced her to that embodies some of the reasons she thought I was different than the normal type guy. For me it's something that made me think of home and escape my circumstances for a few hours while I was in the Marines, and now it's also somethting deeply symbolic for Kelly and me because of our honeymoon.

So seeing it here in our new home region is also somewhat symbolic. And we've been here just long enough that when Garrison Keilor picked fun at Southern California and Californians, it was funny because we could think, "yup, that's us."

I'll link to the show once it posts to the PHC site sometime tomorrow or Monday.
