The snail orgy wasn't the creepiest part

The creepiest part was how all the snails in the yard were somehow homing in on the orgy location. It was like watching the jetBlue arrival screen at JFK that shows a map of the East Coast with all the planes en route as they inch closer to the airport. It was like that except there were, like 200 Airbus 380s all going to JFK at once for a slimy group shag.

I think I'm going to have nightmares tonight. The snails all need to go, there has to be some sort of trap or something. The pie pan of beer doesn't really work because my sprinklers come on overnight an dilute the beer. Also, that method requires leftover alcohol, which is an oxymoron in this house. I'm slowly getting rid of all the plants they love so much (because they are always wet), but they seriously have to go now. I collected over 100 and put them in a quart container and tossed them out in the garbage leaving our curb in nine hours.

I haven't posted in a while, but my sister has at a new website. My nephews are pretty good subject matter. Check it out!

There have been requests to see how my garden is progressing.

The peppers on the ground and the two tomatoes on the ground are doing ok, though I've seen blossoms but no fruit on any of them.

But the tomato in the pot is doing really well.

That one has about 20 green tomatoes going and many more buds.

The two things I miss most about Central New York State are the grocery stores and the seasonal produce. Actually, we haven't really had any good produce here. Essentially, here you get kind of produce you get off season there, but you get that all year here, with little or no quality change in the summer.

The worst is the strawberries. People here don't even know that strawberries aren't supposed to be hollow in the center. And they don't know that the largest strawberry on Earth should never have been grown bigger than an acorn because smaller ones are sweeter and more flavorful. And they have no idea that real strawberries stay fresh only about two days and should never see the inside of a fridge.

I've explained these facts to a couple of Californians, but those who have only lived here couldn't possibly understand.  It's like explaining how fresh squeezed orange juice tastes to someone who's only ever had orange soda.

What else is new...

It was cooler than it has been for a week or so today. It has been toping out at ~101, but today topped out at 94, which made a huge difference. It should be similar to today for the next 10 days, if you can believe weather.com.

The heat burned a bunch of my grass in the front yard, so I'm trying to get that to recover. I was successful doing that in the two other patches of grass, but this one is a little further gone.

Oh, I keep forgetting to say thanks to Mom and Dad for the bird bath! We finally picked one out, which was my (early) birthday present. I've seen bird seeds, bird poo, and feathers in the water, but have yet to witness a bird actually in it. It'll happen.
