Live from the Dakotas!

A guest post from my father - taken from an email.

Well, I have no excuse for not e-mailing this morning!

The first night I was just too tired.  I’d covered 427 miles in 15½ hours and I was just finished for the day.  The second night, I had covered 450 miles and my $32.00 per night motel did not have internet access.

Yesterday I covered nearly 500 miles and got soaked to the skin by a sudden thunderstorm.  I spent last evening drying my clothes.

So today – no excuse, the rain is coming down at about 1” per hour and the Harley is just going have to tough-it-out, alone.  It would figure, I get rained in at the most expensive motel I’ve stayed in.

A great trip so far.  We know it is a big country, but you just don’t know how big until you cross it on a motorcycle!

As most of you know, I am on my own personal “Bucket List” experience.  The only two states I had never been to were the Dakotas.  Scratch one; I am in Fargo, ND now.

Here are some of my observations to date:

·        Gasoline gets cheaper the farther you get from a refinery

·        Roads get better the farther they are from populations

·        Most everybody is friendly, if you are friendly

·        Motorcycling in the rain sucks

·        The growing season in northern Wisconsin, Minnesota & Michigan is significantly behind WNY.

·        Wisconsin is pronounced Wi-sconsin, not Wis-consin

·        Did I mention Motorcycling in the rain sucks

·        Beautiful young women are really fascinated by motorcycles, until they discover the geezer aboard

·        Minnesota Public Radio is the only liberal broadcasting I can tolerate, I love the accents, eh

It looks like the skies are clearing; I’m off to Sturgis, SD!
