Garden update

It's been a tough week all around. For a perfect eulogy of my sister's husband's mom please go here. Her passing was sudden and really difficult for all of us.

On this end, the proposals keep coming and I've been working non-stop since the weekend of the fourth, and was working non stop for three weeks before that.

So the garden is going a bit wild while I'm working.

I had no idea that tomatoes grew so big. They're taking over the whole back yard. I had to hold them back to mow under them.

The plant closest to me in the photo has these funny shaped, absolutely delicious tomatoes.

Only two o them have ripened enough to eat, but neither of them have actually made it into the house yet, I've rinsed them with the hose and ate them right away.

The peppers are coming along too.

Gardening is not really that easy and it's something for which nothing but experience can really prepare you. Like I didn't realize that caterpillars could eat most of a tomato plant in one day. Or that organic, non toxic pesticide made of rosemary extract and cinnamon would kill any leaves it touches. I almost lost everything in the garden on that last one.

I've killed a peach tree already, ironically by over watering it. One apple tree is thriving while another is clinging to life. I dug up one of the oleander plants from the slope and placed it between us and the neighbors to the east, hopefully for a little more privacy.

I also dug up one of the lilacs and put it in front.

It seems to be doing okay.

Here's the guy who fertilizes my tomatoes.
