I remember Dave Allen discussing humor on his program once, when I was watching him on WXXI in my parent's room one staurday night. They had wheeled the black-and-white TV into their room and were no doubt trying to convince me to go upstairs. But I remember this one program and he was talking about how funny the unexpected was and how he loved to use it in his program.
For those who remember the Dave Allen At large Show, this intro will stir some nostalgia.

Thanks for the laughs. I had forgotten how funny Dave Allen's skits were. The most recent thing that made me laugh out loud was on Thursday when I took Grandma to JoAnn Fabrics. I dropped her off, parked, made a phone call and then went into the store to meet her and couldn't find her anywhere, up and down isles..no Grandma. Now, I can even find her in Wegman's, so JoAnn's should have been a no brainer. But anyway I finally decided I'd wait up front for her to show up and, making conversation with a clerk who was working on a display, I said "I've lost my mother-in-law!" She looked at me and said, "And is that a BAD thing?"
I'm thinking of sending it in to Reader's Digest. (By the way, Grandma was in the bathroom and when I told her what the lady had said, she immediately said, "So what did YOU say????" That's Grandma's sense of humor.
