Rainbows and honey

It rained this morning about 8:30.

There was a freak sprinkle, more like a sneeze,  back in early July, but other than that, we probably haven't seen rain since March.

This was by no means a down pour, but it got everything wet. There was a rainbow, since it was early in the day, to the west. I have seen more rainbows in my year here in the desert than I have in the 34 years prior combined.

I also saw some lightning.

During the rain, the air smelled of ozone and, well, rain. But after the rain, when the sun came out, the desert smelled just like honey.

Last year at this time, there was some snow on the highest peak to the south east, so it could happen any day.

Amanda and I are surviving without Kelly here. She's warmed up to me and spends most of our waking hours following me around. It may have something to do with me having kitty treats in my pockets and sharing at random times. But she slept with me last night too, which is progress.

The heart breaker was I when got up early and started the shower this morning, then went to check email (it takes like three minutes to get hot water to the showers up stairs), Amanda started crying like she had her paw stuck in a rat trap. I think it was the first time all he usual morning stimulus was there that reminded her of mornings with Kelly. I think she was thinking, "oh yeah, there used to be that pretty girl here too, WHERE THE HECK IS SHE???"

She's now sitting on the back of the couch as my head rest.

So Kelly showed me how to run everything here, but there are still a few things that I washed in the dishwasher and I'm not sure where they came from. So it's just easier to keep them in there and they'll be REALLY clean when Kelly gets back.

Amanda is more social than I thought she was, I guess she split her time between Kelly and me, but when i'm it she's always around.

A neighbor just came over to tell me I left the garage door open. I think it was next door dude who only sometimes mows his lawn. I only think that it's him because the guy who stopped by was Asian and so is next door guy.  Kelly accuses me of stereotyping him because I see him leaving the house in formal chef's garb, so I said, "I whant to be friends with him because I bet he makes some kick ass sushi."

Kelly reminds me that he works at the Olive Garden for all I know. But in my defense, there are a LOT of sushi places here and they tend hire chefs who dress in the all white chef garb, and are Asian.

I really was glad that he stopped by and let me know the door was open. And I wish I could be better at making friends, because the little I know about our neighbors, they seem cool (except the lawn negligence).
