Yard bird

The back yard of this house is the whole reason we bought the place. Not that it doesn't have other good aspects, but the yard was the thing that really made this place stand out from the other houses in the Antelope Valley. My favorite feature is the thickly wooded (desert wooded) slope in the back.

This slope is the only one as thickly vegitated in the area, so it has become a sanctuary for bunnies and racoons, a stalking ground for at least 6-8 cats, a refuge for dozens of species of birds, including about three species of humming bird, and even a rat.

I've seen a hawk kill a pigeon in the yard, I've seen a hummingbird display really odd behavior, twice, and a lizzard entered the bedroom through a hole in the screen from the back yard. Twice. JJ and I heard coyote disturbingly near one midnight while we sat back there discussing life.

Even in my fantasies of this place before we knew we could buy it, I didn't think the back yard would be as entertaining as it has been. But by now, I thought it had revealed all of its surprises, but there was one more.

A chicken.

More accurately, a rooster. Kelly saw him late Saturday afternoon as I was on the phone with my mom. I didn't quite buy that a chicken was in our yard, and thought Kelly was crazy. Well...
